Rail is coming back to the Gulf Coast

Fantastic Service Alert!

Amtrak, Norfolk Southern, CSX and the Alabama Port Authority have come to an agreement on bringing rail back to the Gulf Coast. On Monday, all parties submitted a joint statement to the Surface Transportation Board to pause the case in order for all parties to work through the agreement.

Once the agreement is finalized, the gulf coast will finally receive passenger rail service for the first time since 2005. Amtrak has proposed running two daily trips between New Orleans and Mobile. It is still yet to be determined whether the Amtrak plan will go ahead or if any track improvements will be needed to start the service.

A huge thanks to all those who signed our petition and showed their support for passenger rail in the Southeast. Hopefully this will be the start of a major expansion.
